Hello to everyone from a lurking potter wanabe. I live in Port Orford,
Oregon.
On October 14th a 42' sailboat set anchor at about 2:00am. The yacht
was on its way to Brookings, Oregon to be surveyed as the owner just had
done some refurbishing. The owner was frying some bacon in the galley
and had to go on deck for a moment. He turned to go back into the cabin
and discovered smoke and fire coming out of the hatch. All he had time
to do was get into his tender and row to the port and call for help. The
boat was too far from land for the fire department to do anything so it
burned and sank.
No one was hurt and he was the only one on board. I don't think he had a
fire extinguisher on deck. He was really lucky he wasn't out on the
ocean when he got hungry.
