I would not own a sailboat without a Roller Furler... Unless it was a cat rig.

Even Hobie Cats have furlers now a days...

I sailed for 5 years without one. When the going gets rough/windy the furler
saves going to bow in a pitching boat to keep jib from blowing off bow.
Downhauls don't work when it blows.
