Harry Gordon,
I have a new Honda outboard on my P15, Lil. This is
the basic model without the centrifugal clutch. The
cooling system is Forced air cooling. I see nothing in
the owners manual about a water pump, impeller, nor
any mention of running the motor in fresh water after
salt water use. The exhaust system is underwater. I
have to admit that I have been running it in a bucket
after use, but after reading the recent posts
regarding, I questioned my old habit. I now see no
reason to continue this ritual. I ran the motor on
half throttle during almost all of our recent Los
Alamitos to Newport Beach sail. I filled the one quart
tank at the start. Ran out and refilled at Huntington
Beach Pier, and finally when entering Newport. This
amounts to 2 quarts for about 16 miles. I am satisfied
with the performance. I shopped around by downloading
Honda dealers on the internet and found the lowest
price, $590.00. At the very end of our voyage, Bill
Payne in Pilgrim with a Nisson 3.5 hp 2 cycle, and I
did a little full throttle drag in Newport Bay. Bill
Payne went about 20 feet farther in a one minute
period than I at full throttle.
