A new fast spreading worm is making the rounds. VBS_TUNE is a
self-spamming worm that uses Outlook client and mIRC (Internet Relay
Chat) to propagate. VBS_TUNE infects Windows 95/98/NT and 2000 where
the Windows Scripting Host is installed (By default, WSH is bundled
and enabled in Windows 98 and Windows 2000). This worm does not appear
to infect other files and it also does not have a payload (except for
the self-spamming). The worm comes attached as “tune.vbs” in an email
with the subject:
"Hey, you really need to check out this attached file I sent
you...Please check it out as soon as possible"
Trend’s new pattern file #631 detects this worm and is now available
on the Trend website. Trend customers may also use the blocking
features of ScanMail for Exchange 3.0 and InterScan to filter email
with .vbs attachments or use eManager to block email with the above
mentioned subject line. Customers are also advised to not click on the
attachment "tune.vbs" if they should receive it via email or IRC.
