Kris, group:

It may be different on a P19, but If I got 20 seconds I be thrilled. Of
course it makes a difference if your beating vs a run. The closer I point
to the wind, the less effective the tiller tamer is for me. On a run I have
had it hold a course with little deviation for up to a minute, plenty of
time to visit the loo. On the other hand, while beating, I can hardly get
it to hold a course long enough to scratch or adjust the down haul or boom
vang or , i.e. a few seconds, before it falls off.

I don't like the way it is installed and if I were to reinstall I would put
the jam cleats on the coaming vs back on the transom. The angle of the line
forms to severe of a "V" and allows to much slop.

I have been following all of the tiller extension, self steering, and jib
tending disucussions with great interest. I would love to hear from those
of
you P15 types with tiller tamers exactly how well that thing works for you.

I have one, but find if I get twenty seconds liberation from the tiller I am

doing well. Am currently planning to replace some of the rudder parts with
aluminum (blade and side strips on upper part) for better durability. Have
actually had the tiller strips delaminate and separate into the individual
slats of wood. Anyone else encounter this? May be the extreme dryness here

(was 12% humidity the other day).
