On occasion -- admittedly rare -- Ursa has sailed with the tiller held
unmoving by the Tiller Tamer for 15 minutes or more, regardless of where I
was on the boat. This has been possible only on a close reach in moderate
seas, with normally variable winds in the 8-15 knot range. Usually, however,
self steering only works if I keep my butt in the same place, 'tho Dog can
move around. All things considered, an autopilot is definitely the way to go
-- at least for singlehanders.
