Hi folks!
with the help of eric Johnson's willingness to hang out and brainstorm
about boats for a couple of hours.....I am pleased to announce

THE P-15 CENTERBOARD MODIFICATION OF A LIFETIME.....!!!!

i wanted to be able to control the board from the cockpit. i wanted to be
able to raise and lower/lock the board from the cockpit in such a way that
locked down the board would have some give incase i hit something.

so.....

i bought some longer 1/4 inch line and some 5/16 inch shock cord.

i removed the horn cleat on the stbd side of the keel box. i kept the
fairlead on stbd side of box.

i ran the "uphaul" (line that raises cb) aft thru the fairlead then
straight aft to the slanty wall of the cockpit under the bridge deck. i
drilled a hole, mounted a cute little thru deck fairlead, ran the line
thru, then mounted a v cleat below the fairlead where i could cleat the
line to control the raising motion of the cb.

then, to control keeping the board lowered or locked at any height, i tied
the shock cord (using a double sheet bend) to the other end of the line
(where it is attached to the cb). then i ran the shock cord aft on the
port side of the box, no fairlead ( it has to be able to travel back with
the board as it lowers). i drilled another hole thru the slanty wall below
the bridge deck, mounted another thru deck fairlead and v cleat.

IT WORKS GREAT! now i have complete control over the cb without having to
leave the cockpit. it is a simple and inexpensive fix to the factory
standard. I encourage you all to do it to your boats, especially if you
have concerns about turtling or getting stuck.

mounted low in the cockpit the lines are out of the way and easy to
manipulate.

have fun!
