PY-er,

Next Saturday, Feb 26-27, the Potter Yachters will kick off the Y2k Sailing
Calendar with a weekend on the Oakland Estuary and SF Bay. As always, all
local sailboat skippers are invited to join us!!!

***PLEASE RSVP TO JUDY BLUMHORST, COMMODORE, BY EMAIL OR BY PHONE
925-820-0800 BY 10 AM FRIDAY.

Launch at 9 am from Grand Av ramp in Alameda. Please be on time! We want to
be on the water by 11 am.

Saturday: The Oakland Estuary is a great place for both new and experienced
skippers. Daysailing on the estuary for newer skippers. Experienced skippers
will head to Ballena Bay in Alameda for lunch at the Whales Tail restaurant.
We'll stay overnight at the guest dock at the Marina Village Yacht Harbor,
across the estuary from Jack London Square. Dinner at London Square on the
opposite side of the Estuary or dine on your yacht.

Sunday: Brunch at the Oakland Yacht Club, followed by daysailing, with
morning practice session on "heaving to" taught by Jerry Barrilleaux on the
estuary. Depending on wind direction, experienced skippers may make the
short trip to Clipper Cove, between Treasure Is. and Yerba Buena Is. There's
a beautiful, sheltered sandy beach there. It's also a great place to
practice anchoring.

www.weather.com is forcasting decent weather for next weekend. It's been
wet and rainy lately, and the rain is supposed to continue through the
middle to end of the week. We'll keep our fingers crossed. If it's pouring
on Saturday, we'll postpone the Saturday sail and hope for good daysailing
weather on Sunday. I'll keep you posted by email.

THE DETAILS:

Launching is free at the Grand Street Ramp. Free parking is available in
the ramp parking lot or on-street near the ramp if you arrive reasonably
early. Secured parking can be arranged right next door at the Alameda Marina
for $10 for tow vehicle and trailer. RV parking is not permitted in either
the ramp parking lot or in the Alameda Marina parking lot.

MARINA REGISTRATION AND DOCK KEY: We will meet folks who RSVP'd at the
Grand Street Ramp from 9am to 11 am to pass out marina keys and maps. If
you didn't RSVP or you arrive at the ramp after 11 am, you will need to stop
by at the Harbormaster's Office at Marina Village Yacht Harbor to get a key
and register. There's plenty of room at the guest dock, so there's no need
to worry or to call for individual reservations.

PLEASE BRING CHECKS OR CASH FOR YOUR SLIP AND DOCK KEY- it's $10 for the
guest dock and a $25 refundable deposit for the key. The Harbormaster for
Marina Village Yacht Harbor has asked the club to handle most of the details
of registration and distributing dock keys. The club can't accept credit
cards, sorry.

The phone number at the marina is 510-521-7032 and they monitor VHF channel
16. They told me that there is a major regatta there thru Friday, and that
they will probably not be able to accomodate arrivals before Saturday am.

Let's all keep our fingers crossed that the weather is sunny and warm by
Saturday. It should be a great weekend!!

Fair Winds,
Judy Blumhorst, Commodore, Potter Yachters

Here's a link for a chart of the estuary, with the Grand Street ramp
indicated by a big "G", and the Marina indicated by a big "M"

The entrance to the Marina is between Piers B and P, indicated with a heavy
arrow on the chart(right under the words "Brooklyn Basin", where the number
"33" appears.) Useful Landmarks: Immediatedly west of the marina are docked
houseboats. The round building on the shore is the Meridian Restaurant
(formerly the Tied House).
