Kent:
I actually went out sailing about a year ago during a high wind warning in
my P-15. My guess is the gusts were well over 50 mph (Winter/spring
Chinooks). The "lake" (Chatfield Reservoir, CO) I sailed in had hills around
it so it was a bit sheltered from the wind. The wind and waves were high and
several times the gunwale went under. We sailed on for about 4-5 hours and
eventually a gust turtled us. The cabin door was open, the keel not tied
down, no life jacket on, no reefing (classic stupidity done well). Now I
realise if we hadn't capped the salad dressing we might have had an easier
time. Live and learn.
