Subject: [WWP] Delta Ditch Race Weekend May 6-7 ---- P15's at Foster
City,May 27-28

Here are the PYC events for the next two or three months. If you can't make
it for the weekend, join us for a daysail!!

As always, non-members welcome! If you love to sail with good company,
you'll fit right in!

~~~~~~~~~~May 6-7 PY Delta Ditch Race Weekend~~~~~~~~
This is a great weekend sailing some of the most beautiful parts of the
Delta, near Stockton. We'll be staying overnight in Windmill Cove Marina,
where there is a restaurant and bar. Sunday, we'll probably sail upriver
about 8 miles for brunch at "Herman and Helen's", a floating restaurant with
good, hearty, cheap food.
Depending on the weather, the wind ranges from 5 to 25 knots in this part of
the Delta, so you be prepared to reef your sails, AND HAVE A RELIABLE
OUTBOARD HANDY, especially for the upriver sail on Sunday morning. Advanced
beginners are in luck, however -- there are no waves on the river, so if the
wind gets too strong for your sailing skills, you should lower your sails
and use your outboard. As always, it's important to sail safely and to stay
within your own limitation.
We will have an informal race early Saturday morning to Windmill Cove, where
we'll have lunch and award the prizes. It's all in good fun and on the honor
system. First 3 boats in each division that reach the entrance to Windmill
Cove win. Cut-throat racers and skippers who take it too seriously will be
forced to walk the plank.
There will be prizes totalling $300 in gift certificates and, like last
year, winners will get "Genuine Imitation Gold and Imitation Marble"
Trophies to proudly display at home or in the office .
This year, we'll have three divisions
1. Small Mini-Cruisers - (14 to 16 feet LOA)Potter 15's, Montgomery 15's,
Compac 16's, etc
2. Big Mini-Cruisers (17-19 feet LOA) Potter 19's, Monty 17's, Compac 19's
etc.
3. Open Class Pocket Cruisers (20+ feet, probably with some sort of handicap
system if they vary alot.
Directions: To get to the ramp, heading north on interstate 5 from the Bay
area, take the March Lane offramp and turn west. The road ends at the ramp.
The fee is about $7.00 for the weekend.
~~~~~~~P15 Weekend/Daysail at Foster City Lagoon, May 27-28~~~~~~~~~

An event specially organized for the P15's by Dory Taylor and Oscar
Koechlin.

We will start the sail at 10am., racing to the restaurant complex, having
lunch, racing to the end of the canal (very wide - made for sailing) and
back to lauching ramps at Boat Park. Assemble between 8-8:30am., launch
8:30-9:30, start sail at 10am.

Foster City Lagoon has both flat water and good winds blowing off SF Bay.
There are several bridges to cross under, and boats with taller masts than
the P15 may not fit underneath. P19's will not fit.

Free Launch, well maintained ramp, 2 lanes, space to tie up 20 Potters; 1
portable toilet enclosure, space to park 30 cars with trailers, plus 20
normal parking spaces (all this normally empty). NO ENGINES ALLOWED (nor
needed).

Space on 2 underutilized well maintained docks at Restaurant waterside
complex for 12 Potters .

For lunch, we will chose among four large restaurants all with waterside
tables (a total of some 40/4people tables alongside windows on the water):
Chevys Fresh Mex (Enchilada Platter $6.99) Waterfront Pizza (1 topping 12"
$9.55, hamburger 1/2#'s $2.99) Mr. Fong's Seafood Restaurant (Cashew chicken
$7.25) O'Donnegans Irish restaurant (Angus Burger $5.45 with fries)

Restaurant complex is mid-way of the 5 mile sail.

At night you could anchor in the large lagoon and spend the night at anchor,
or dockside at Boat Park (checked with the Foster City Police and they told
me I could leave my van and trailer there overnight - even though
technically the park is closed it is not locked up and there should be no
problem - all that I would advise is that we should be quiet since it is a
residential area).

Directions: From Freeway 92 (San Mateo Bridge is Highway 92) exit at Foster
City Blvd direction SE (this is the first exit in San Mateo after the
bridge). Follow Foster City Blvd SE to make a RIGHT on Bounty Dr. and
immediate left on Boat Park (you are there!)

~~~~~~~~~~June 3-4 Woodward Reservoir~~~~~~~~~~
Our annual weekend at Woodward Reservoir, near Oakley. One of our best
attended events every year.
Sail your boat up to the shore and wade ashore. Sleep aboard or on land.
Modern camping facilities, a Pot-luck on Saturday night and beautiful fresh
water sailing and swimming. Bring a main dish for yourself, and a side dish
or hor d'oevre to share. Suitable for all sailors from beginner to skilled.
This year we have a special treat. We will be camping with folks from the
San Jose Sailing Club and joining them for the Pot-Luck Saturday night. Some
of the SJSCs will be bringing their dinghies and some may bring
trailerable-cruisers. They have very a very active Dinghy Fleet and Trail &
Sail Fleet.
Directions
Woodward Res. Is east of Manteca on 120. When you get to the lake, tell the
folks at the entrance that you will be using the “primitive camping”
facilities. They will charge you accordingly. I think its about $10 a night.
Past the entrance booth, turn right. Look for Either SJSC or PYC posted
paper plates with directions. It is perhaps a mile or so around the backside
of the lake and you will leave the paved road at some point to get to the
water’s edge/camping area.
~~~~~~~~~~~~July 15-16: Second Annual SCA Cruiser Challenge~~~~~~~~~~~~

Last year, over 30 mini-cruisers from hundreds of miles around gathered on
the Oakland Estuary for a fabulous weekend of racing, daysailing and good
company on the Oakland Estuary. The new magazine for sailboats under 25
feet, Small Craft Advisor, co-sponsored the race. You can read their report
in the April issue of Small Craft Advisor.

It was race of Potters, Montgomeries, Compacs and Capris in two divisions
(Small Mini-Cruisers and Big Mini-Cruisers), and this year we'd like to see
even a greater number of skippers attend. If warrented, we'll add a third
division to accomodate other boats that aren't compatible with the existing
two divisions.

RSVP early, so we can plan the divisions!

RSVP required for all events. No entry fees. Just pay for your marina slip,
camping fee or launch fee, and your own food and drinks.
