Mark, there were 5 types of Potters made in England, the A type was
constructed of plywood and had a foreword sloping cabin front, it was first
built in 1960. The B type was the same as the A type but was made out of GRP
(Fiberglass) and had a normal slope to the cabin. The C type was built in GRP
and had a stepped cabin roof. The D type was a revised C type with a
different deck molding. And then the Potter AX was built by Martin Pook
Designs of plywood, this boat was a real beauty. The only Potter now being
built in GB is the one by Pot Wight Marine, and she looks great. There is at
least one American Potter Sailing in England.
In the United States there have been 3 versions of the P.15 and 2
versions of the P.19 The first Potter built in the US was hull # 151, it was
built in 1965, fiberglass hull with lots of woodwork and a wooden gunter gig.
The Mark 1 came out in early 1973 it had a aluminum mast with a marconi rig.
Then in Aug 1975 the Mark 2 came out, it had softer lines, a better cockpit,
and a simulated gaff rig on the main. These boats are still being built
today, and it looks like they will be around for years to come.
