Alan,

One more thing:

When the mast is down for trailering, make sure the CDI with furled sail not
rubbing or pinching up against the bowpulpit . The sail will get dirty from
rubbing or even get a hole rubbing thru it. I wrap a piece of terry cloth
towel around the sail to protect it where it rubs against the bow pulpit

BTW, tarp ties from your local hardware store are perfect for bungeeing the
CDI to the mast. They're half the length of regular shock corded sail ties,
with one plastic ball, and cost half as much as the regular sail ties.

HI Alan,

Yes, I do have a CDI on my boat. All my headsails are used on the CDI.
Usually I trailer with the headsail on the CDI. But on the day I took those
pictures, I had taken it off to bring to the sailmaker. If you look
carefully at the pictures, you can see the plastic extrusion and the drum of
the CDI, lying along the mast.

For trailering, I put a shock cord sail tie around the furled jib itself ,
and bungee it to the mast along the whole length. A few feet stick out past
the front of of the boat when the mast is down. I attach one end of a
bungee cord to the drum of the cdi and the other to the roof of my van to
support the part sticking out. If you don't have a high roofed van, you can
lash something (whisker pole?) to the bottom of the mast as an extension.

As for hanked on vs Furled headsail, that's a matter of personal choice.
You make the choice and them pretty much stick with it. If you plan to use
the CDI for one sail, you have to use it for all your sails. You can't
switch back and forth between hanked on vs. furled sails, without the
unacceptable hassle of removing and installing the CDI unit.

Fair breezes,
Judy B
