Attach a small block just behind where you attach the forestay. Then
run a 1/4" line from the cockpit through the block and tie it to the
forestay.
Then you can tie the line to a small cleat on the cabin top and adjust
it
to permit you to raise and lower the mast. When the mast is up you can
use the line as a downhaul for the jib. I've got four cam cleats
mounted
on a teak rail over the hatch. That permits me to raise and lower the
sails
from the cockpit.
