Re: RE: [WWP] Motor Theft

I really hated to hear about the stolen motor . It seems to be a
common theme around the marina's and a source of constant concern .
Someone suggested docking the boat with the motor away from the dock
(slip) . In ne Fl. a few years ago that would have done very little
good as the theives were making their rounds in a boat or dingy and
would simply pull up behind your boat and just drop your outboard
right into their boat . Several motors were stolen at our marina and
the adjacent ones that way . Luckily my motor was old and ugly ( not
by design ) but ran great .
Someone also suggest the Krytonite locks . I'm also an avid bicyclist
. I think the cable lock might work but the Ulock certainly won't .
Bikes were getting stolen with these "guaranteed" locks . It turns
out
that they are very difficult to cut through but our friendly ingenius
theives would simply spray freon on the lock 'til it was good and
cold
then bash it with a hammer and the lock would shatter like an icecube
. I think the same theory would apply to the mounting bolt handles
and
the bolts themselves .
It is indeed frustrating and a sad commentary to the times . The best
suggestion seems to be the " make it look uninviting theory " .

Again sorry to hear about the motor and best of luck , Greg
