I solo raise my mast all of the time. Throw 2 or 3 half hitches around
the forestayabout 2' up from the shackle, lead it around the bow pulpit
or any available fairlead and run it aft to the cockpit.
bolt the foot of the mast in loosely, pick up the mast and hand over
hand it to the upright position while keeping most of the slack out of
the line that you have attached to the forestay. Once your are in the
upright position take all the slack out of the line and secure it. Then
walk forward to attach the forestay in its proper position. Works for
me.
