Dear Richard Newman
My most wonderful and versatile tool is a 5 foot boat hook that extends out
to 12 feet. While sitting in the cockpit I use it to push or pull my self
from the dock, other boats, and all other obstructions and fixtures. I use it
to place and/or lift up my mooring lines from the dock and doing all of the
other things that I would delegate to a deck hand if I wasn't sailing solo.
I bet that with a telescoping boot hook you would feel much more comfortable
sailing solo. I sail a P-15 and have always found it useful. I am getting
ready to purchase a 4 1/2 foot boat hook that only extends out to 8 feet in
that this is sufficient for a P-15 and a 4 1/2 foot boat hook fits on the
floor of a P-15 cockpit. The 5 foot boat hook is a bit too long for a P-15.
