Not too long ago, I posted a note regarding the death (after 11 years of
hard use) of Ursa's gooseneck while sailing on Lake Tahoe. I'm happy to
say that Dwyer (the manufacturer of the original rig) has apparently
learned their lesson. I've just received a new gooseneck ordered from
their web site, and the new one is welded together far more thoroughly
than the original and includes a brace not formerly present. I expect
(fingers crossed) this one to last 110 years. If only I could do the same.

The Dwyer URL is <<http://www.csiworld.com/dwyer>>. The mast on Ursa
Minor is their DM-6, although I believe later models have a lighter
(smaller) section? You folks with nothing to do this winter may want to
inspect this area. I'm especially curious to know if later masts are
indeed smaller -- as may be determined by measuring the cross section and
comparing to the dimensions shown on the web site.

My best to all you folks, irascible and laid-back alike.

Regards,
