Good Morning Judith! <G> I will forward this to the list if others are
curious, and also if they have better ideas on this subject. Feel free to
comment, Thanks!

How did you mount the vent on the forward hatch -- specifically, how did you
deal with the ribbing in the hatch? My P-19 forward hatch is not flat on the
horizontal surface,; it has ridges less than 4 inches apart to strengthen it.
Thanks. >>

Carefully describe the circle to be cut. In this case 4.5". Insure it is
where you want it. In my case slightly forward of center of hatch ON the true
centerline. Make the cut... (Unnerving I can assure you) using the tool of
your choice (BTW I DO NOT Recommend a Router too uncontrollable <G>), I like a
drill and a jigsaw myself. TAKE YOUR TIME IN THIS STEP. Those ridges are a
bit of a problem. Then using epoxy bars fill in the irregular surface untill
you have a flat circle plate for the solar vent. Drill the mounting holes
using the template for location, seal them and the actual 4.5" radii of the
vent into the hatch with marine sealant as you screw it down.

Note I did not say use epoxy to mount the solar vent. The epoxy is used to
even out the ridges to make a flat ring to mount the actual vent and allow for
marine bedding sealent to be used. You only NEED to make a sealable ring for
the actual size of the penetrating part of the solar vent. The mounting
screws CAN be longer than "Normal" and with proper bedding still work well
enough. Indeed I can make a strong case to replace the screws with Stainless
Steel Bolts, washers and nuts.

Oh and BTW donot step on the Solar Vent, it is pretty strong but it is not a
step. Nor is the Forward Hatch on the Potter IMHO. I'd run my lines aft to
the cockpit myself for general reasons <G>. I strongly dislike moving forward
on a bouncing and wet fore deck to reduce sail.
