A backstay on a P.19 is a good Idea, especially on a run in heavy seas. It
just so happens that have been making a Backstay kit for a P. 19. We sail San
Francisco Bay , and I wouldn't go out without one. All summer long the winds
are 15 to 25 knots. I have been out in winds over 40 knots, and a backstay is
good insurance. However I think your bulb Idea is overkill. The Potter is
plenty stiff in standard form. If you want a easy to install backstay kit ,
please let me know.
