Mike: FWIW, I don't lube my hitch ball. I used to, but it was always such
a mess that I tried not doing so and found no problems. I _haven't_ done
any micrometric wear measurements, however so I may be missing some effects.
I'd certainly like to hear what others are doing.

If you grease your hitch ball, the tennis balls do serve a purpose, but if
you have a removable ball platform, I recommend removing it whether you
grease or not. That lesson cost me $45 for a replacement when someone
decided they needed mine worse than I did.
