I have never greased my hitchball. I've been been pulling a small travel
trailer (loaded weight about 1500 lbs) for five years and it still works fine.
And my hitchball isn't even chrome; it's just rusty iron. The only posssible
draw back that I can notice is that you have to line up the coupling pretty
accurately because it won't drop onto the ball if it's not aligned well.
Maybe I'll wear the hitchball out in another five years, but what the heck,
they only cost about $10.

Towing a WWP-19 #266 "Redwing", 2 Force 5's, a Laser, and 3 windsurfers on a
monster trailer, and a travel trailer from here to Timbucktoo! Also towed
several Uhauls and a car from coast to coast, and they never had grease on the
ball....
