That factor has added a lot of excitement to a day of sailing when son
and I motor upwind to our side tie in a very narrow channel with riprap
(big jagged rocks) a few feet to starboard, on our 1350 lbs. Capri 16.
We take a good aim while at the 2 knot idle speed, cut the 3.5 Nissan
with only a go gear, and try to drift, or should I say slow down, to the
dock, port side, and lasso a cleat on the dock before running into the
bridge to shore. The channel is so narrow that we can't turn the boat
around to face outbound while under any power. We have to dock 1st, get
on the dock, and turn the boat around by the bow pulpit by hand, and tie
it's starboard side to the dock. It's tricky in a blow. I haven't
tried to single hand it yet. I'll wait till I'm bored.
