I never lubed the trailer hitch ball, until one day ...

some good friends of mine who hauled an industrial size backhoe on a
trailer with their 4WD truck told me that they never lubed their hitch ball
either...

until the day the ball wore itself up through a hole in the top of the
receiver!

Since that day, they .. and I .. have faithfully lubed our hitch balls.

I prefer wheel bearing grease .. it comes in a handy can. Carry a roll of
paper towels to wipe your balls afterward.

With such a small boat as the Potter 15, it may not matter much ... but
believe me, the majority of the wear occurs inside the receiver, where you
won't see it.
