I found a hot dip galvanizer that is willing to do my centerboard that
is located about 40 miles away. They have a minimum charge of $50.00
which will cover up to 160 lbs and it's $0.31 after that (if any P-19
owners are interested in galvanizing). However, since I cannot tell them
what the alloy is and since the metal has been rusted already, they will
not guarantee their work.

By coincidence, after pricing items in the West Marine catalog, it looks
like it would cost about $50.00 to epoxy barrier coat and then paint the
centerboard. I suppose you could say that there is no guarantee on that
method either, but I'd have only myself to blame if I screwed up.

On one hand, galvanizing would be easier since all I have to do is
drive. On the other hand epoxying/painting the cb would allow me to put
a very bright color on the board so that it would be more visible in the
event of a capsize. I'm assuming equal durability from both methods.

Any advice from the wisdom of the group?
