Hello one and all. As a new P15 owner (of a 1980 hull) I have discovered
a need to replace my rudder assembly. The one that came with the boat was
shot - it had already be repaired to the point that further attempts would
not seem to be judicious. IM was very nice, in that they sold me the
rudder parts, minus the pintles and gudgeons. However, when I started the
replacement today, I noticed that the pintle spacing for the new rudder
was about 1" further apart than that of the old rudder.
Hence my dilemma - I could either a) move the gudgeons down an inch, which
would require that I drill more holes into the hull (and fill the old
ones); or b) I could move the lower pintle down an inch. Although it
would seem obvious to just move the lower pintle, the recess for the strap
(or plate, if that is what it is called) would have to be made. What do
you guys and gals think? I will probably call IM Monday, but I am hoping
that someone who has gone through this already will provide some insight.
By the way, two more questions. One, I received a really neat looking
asymetrical spinnaker (with sock) with the boat. Does anyone have
experience using one of these things, especially on such a small boat?
Two, does anyone have a used small outboard for sale, or know how cheap I
should be able to get one for? The one I got with the boat was a complete
piece of junk - unless someone needs parts. It is a 3hp Tanaka. If you
need some parts for one of these motors, please email, and I will gladly
give them away.
Sincerely,
