I had the same problem and replaced the original mounting board with a piece
of wood the same thickness and width but with the extra height I needed. The
kind of wood and the finish, varnish or epoxy depends on how fancy you want to
get. I just used a piece of step left from my porch and couple coats of epoxy.
It doesn't look as nice as the original but it does the job.
