Everything I would have said Harry covered already. Except that there
is a noticeable difference in how an electric Vs gas engine maneuver the
boat. Although I decided on a 4 stroke outboard, the electric I used was
nice at low speeds. It also would respond quickly when you cranked it up.
Since the speeds are set, sometimes you had a problem getting just the right
speed, which a gas engine tends to be a little better at. I would have to
say the best choice is both if you can. I really like putting around
Alamitos bay with the electric. when motoring so close to homes (Naples
Canals) you dont disturb the residents and you dont have to talk over the
motor. I found it inadequate getting me out of the channel though. and
useless in the ocean on a rough day.
