Rye, Jim, et al,

Ohmigosh. You guys are serious. <grin> I'll bet most folks who don't make
serious passages never even calibrate their compass. Now you've educated me
to the point where I can astound others by relating how I degaussed my keel!

Okay, I vote for the sledge hammer approach, with the p19 keel winched up,
using a towel to prevent chipping the galvanzied or epoxy coating (that
won't
interfere with the degaussing process, will it?, it I clobber it hard
enough?)

And I thought I was being so clever when I installed the compass! I
considered only two factors -- magnetic field of the VHF radio and comfort
leaning back against the bulkhead for napping in the sun!

Best,
Judy

No!

Don't use hammer>..

Radio Shack sells a degaussing coil for TV's that can be used to degauss keel.
