My trailer tongue weight is, I am sure excessive, especially since I
have added 180# of ballast in a slightly forward position, and my
anchor, 30 ft. of chain, and 250 ft. of rode are stowed on the bow. I
will find out exactly what the the tongue weight is (+/-) by resting the
tongue on a bathroom scale. I will adjust the amount of weight by
sliding the boat backwards on the trailer. I can read directly the
change in tongue weight that results. Upon reaching a satisfactory
weight, I will note the gap between the bow and the trailer vertical
post nest, disconnect the nest holder and make a new one long enough to
make up the discrepancy. There will be no need for cutting or welding,
and the operation is easily reversible if required.
