I hate to recommend any book I haven't read, but I am here visiting family in
Carmel, California and spent yesterday at the Monterey Aquarium. By the way,
the aquarium is an absolute must do for anyone interested in the sea. I
spent all afternoon there, from about 1PM until they closed at six. My legs
where like gumby legs and there's still more I would have liked to have seen.
Anyway, at the aquarium they have a bookstore with all kinds of books of the
sea. I picked up two which looked extremely interesting. If anybody's read
them, I'd like to hear about it. They are: 1. "Sea Change" Alone across the
Atlantic in a wooden boat, by Peter Nichols and, 2. "Before the Wind, The
Memoir of an American Sea Captain 1808-1833" by Charles Tyng.
They both sound like super adventure stories, one taking place in our century
and one taking place in times of old. They are both true and factual stories.
I did also find out that the Monterey Aquarium store will soon have a web
page and their books and other items will be available online.
