Hi

I'm considering taking the American Sailing Association basic Keel boat
course. I'm heading to Southern California this summer for vacation. I am
wondering what you thought about the ASA schools out there.
Do you have any suggestions for a good school?

I am also wondering what you think about the wisdom of taking such a course
in
1. Lake Travis Texas, near my home where the winds are squirrelly
2. Clear Lake Texas, lots of sailboats the wind usually blows and it is
pretty steady from the south & east.
3. San Diego CA, The wind starts blowing at 10:00am and dies sometime around
6:00pm and except in September seldom blows very hard.

Lake Travis is close. It would be easy to learn here I wouldn't need to use
vacation doing it, but the winds are difficult to read. You can be sailing
along on a run and suddenly the rail will be in the water as a sudden gust
comes around a hill. I'll most likely be sailing here on any weekend.

Clear Lake is just four hours away. The wind is steady. The water is salty.
There's plenty of chances to run aground in the shallow Galveston Bay. I'm
more likely to sail here for adventurous sailing than anywhere else.
