I have used Maritel. The service was great. I spoke with my wife a couple of
times. I sought help from my aunt once. The communication was clear and
easy. I never left the ICW during the time. One time I had to wait about
thirty minutes while a lonely sailor spoke with his girl friend. Generally
the service was useful and the staff helpful.

They "scramble" the VHF signal by masking it with a stronger signal sending
a constant tone.
