Ive been thinking a similar thing. I have a canoe and thought to use it as
a tender for my weekend anchor the boat campings to run to the marina. My
latest line has been thinking to sell the canoe, buy an 8' West marine
rowboat (about $400), add the optional sailing kit ($400) and have a
rowboat, tender, sailing dinghy, and motor tender, and still car toppable.

For the sail dinghy, i was also motivated by the fact that my pottering
lake is 57 miles away and so not suitable for an after work sailing, but
having a small dinghy could be workable for a quickie at a local in town
municipal park lake (as opposed to using my sailboard--dont want to don the
wetsuit, etc). So i might do it just for that.
