The old AquaCats had a big styro foam ball atop the mast to prevent a 180
degree flip. They would lie down 90 degrees only. On the other hand, I've
seen Hobies flip 180 and bury their masts in the bottom of Alamitos Bay in
Long Beach.

International Marine has an old AquaCat behind the shop, or they did last
spring, complete with the ball on top of the mast. The largest I've been
able to find in local (Monterey) hobby shops is 6". You could put two of
those on top of your mast but then somebody might think you were trying to
get smart. (Read phallic symbol) (:>}.

Good luck with your quest for a safer way to sail.
