I can see that the motor on the outboard bracket would experience great
acceleration forces and torque when trailering. The one thing I neglected to
consider is the difference in how the motor bracket is used. I have a cleat
on the deck above the transom directly above the outboard motor. I use a
rope tied to the cleat to hold up the outboard bracket and motor. The
outboard bracket really has no load on it to keep it retracted, all the load
is in the line. I drive on Colorado mountain roads (dirt) and haven't had
any problems yet. However I'm going to reconsider this along with looking at
how to restrain the keel.
