I was surprised to run across one of the (extremely rare) non-obnoxious sort
of PWC User on Saturday. Sailing out of Redwood City, I watched several PWCs
zipping around, and was thankful that for the most part they weren't
venturing as far up the channel as we had gone. Finally one made a beeline
for us. About the time I was starting to consider whether or not I'd have to
get out the paddle to repel boarders, he slowed down, gave us a wide berth
and dropped in behind us, and yelled ...
"Excuse me... is that a West Wight Potter? Is it true that people have
sailed those across oceans?"
We ended up having a nice chat with the kid. I was floored, but it did do a
bit to restore my faith in humanity.

Several weeks ago there was a lot of discussion on this list regarding
various ways of dealing with those obnoxious PWC's. Not all PWC operators
are jerks, but those that are can be irritating. A group of Hobie Cat
sailors have come up with a way to deal with the offenders. I make this
submission for the sake of intelligent discourse only. This is not to be
mistaken or construed as an endorsement of what you will see if you go to:
