I'd suggest making some kind of arch, like a boom gallows, that you could
clamp to the cockpit rails when needed. Perhaps a notched 2x6 as a
cross-piece, with tubing from the rails up to the wood. The 2x6 would
only have to be a few feet wide. You'd be able to break it down into
three main pieces for easy stowage.
