~~~~~~~~~~May 6-7 PYC Delta Ditch Race Weekend~~~~~~~~
This is a great weekend sailing some of the most beautiful parts of the
Delta, near Stockton. We'll be staying overnight in Windmill Cove Marina,
where there is a restaurant and bar. Sunday, we'll probably sail upriver
about 8 miles for brunch at "Herman and Helen's", a floating restaurant with
good, hearty, cheap food.
Depending on the weather, the wind ranges from 5 to 25 knots in this part of
the Delta, so you should be prepared to reef your sails, AND HAVE A RELIABLE
OUTBOARD HANDY, especially for the upriver sail on Sunday morning. Advanced
beginners are in luck, however -- there are no waves on the river, so if the
wind gets too strong for your sailing skills, you should lower your sails
and use your outboard. As always, it's important to sail safely and to stay
within your own limitation.
We will have an informal race early Saturday morning to Windmill Cove, where
we'll have lunch at the bar/restaurant overlooking the river and award the
prizes.
Skippers meetting at 8:30 am Saturday. The Race starts at 10:30
It's all in good fun and on the honor system. First 3 boats in each division
that reach the entrance to Windmill Cove win. Cut-throat racers and skippers
who take it too seriously will be forced to walk the plank.
There will be Gift certificates totalling $300 as prizes and, like last
year, winners will get "Genuine Imitation Gold and Imitation Marble"
Trophies to proudly display at home or in the office .
This year, we're planning to have three divisions
1. Small Mini-Cruisers - (14 to 16 feet LOA)Potter 15's, Montgomery 15's,
Compac 16's, etc
2. Big Mini-Cruisers (17-19 feet LOA) Potter 19's, Monty 17's, Compac 19's
etc.
3. Open Class Pocket Cruisers (20+ feet, probably with some sort of handicap
system if they vary alot.
Directions: To get to the ramp, heading north on interstate 5 from the Bay
area, take the March Lane ramp a few on the north side of Stockton, and turn
west.
The road ends at the ramp.
The fee is about $7.00 for parking and launching. Slips are about $5.
