RE: [WWP] Free-running block versus T-track?

I've seen pictures of setups like that, and it looks like it would function
just fine for getting the right angle for shaping the jib when
roller-reefed. As you roll up the sail, you lower the block to keep enough
tension on the leech of the sail and prevent the foot from getting too
tight.

The one drawback that I can think of is that the blocks will bang against
the deck, particularly on the lazy sheet side and when you pass thru the eye
of the wind tacking.

It would be pretty simple to rig up an experiment and try it. Let us know
how it works. The devil's in the details, but in this case, the devil
doesn't sound too scarey.

PS. IIRC, by definition, a barberhaul is used to adjust the angle of attack
of the jib by moving the sheet lead outboard. In really heavy weather, many
cruisers rig a barberhaul to get a wider angle of attack and depower the
main to reduce heeling.

I think that this called a barbour haul and I used in successfully on a
venture 22 years ago.
