[WWP] P19 Sail Areas

Hi Bruce,

The main sail has total area of about 83 sf including the "roach", the area
the extends past an imaginary line drawn between the head and the clew. The
main sail has a foot of approx 7.92' and a luff of approx 19.25', for an
"industry standard" area of 76 sf.

The area of the lapper is approx 60 sf. It has a luff of 17.5', an LP of
6.83', a foot of 8.42' and a leach of 14.68'.

The lapper is not a 110% headsail, it's an approx 98-100% headsail. We
measure a jib along it's LP (max length perpendicular to the luff, which
lies on a line that passes thru the clew), compared to the boat's "J"
measurement (the horizontal distance from the bottom of the headstay to the
front face of the mast). The "J" on the P19 is 7'. The LP of the lapper is
6.85', for a "percentage" of 98%. The only reason it "overlapps" the mast
is that it has a very high clew, not because its LP is greater than 100% of
J.

Most boats call the 100% jib the "working jib". We call it a lapper.

Most boats call the smallest jib the "storm" jib. We call it the "standard"
jib.

Hope this isn't all terribly confusing.

Subject: Re: [WWP] Galvinizing "that thing"

Is there a way you can tell if you board is glavanized
or not?
My boat is a '97 P-19, According to the number on the
hull I think it was built or finished June 7, 1997.

Also, since after reading some of you folks ability to
calculate, and since I must have missed that day in
school or something, can any of you tell me what the
sail area for my boat is? I have the mainsail
(obviously) and a 110% Lapper on a CDI.

Thanks everybody!
