Greetings:
From my old Catalina days (up till '93) I always felt the best way to do a
group at Catalina was to go around the top of the island to Cat Harbor and
anchor for free. P19s could get in so close that you could wade ashore and
walk to the Istthmus attractions. Much quieter at night and room for a
couple of hundred boats.

On the other hand, given the trailerability of the P19, you could all go to
Santa Barbara and launch from there for Lady's on Santa Cruz Island. Way
cool place, and big boats get nervous at the tight entrance. See Brian
Fagan's Channel island cruising guide for even more ideas, such as Cochos
Prietos.

I'm with you in spirit.

On my trips to Catalina I was not able to get close to shore and had to stay
in deeper water due to 4' draft of my Col 22. I had to anchor way out or find
a mooring. To compensate, I was able to sail to Catalina on Mondays and remain
till Wednesday. Only 4 times a year was I able to catch a weekend in Avalon...
I usually got there on Friday morn and was able to get a mooring. No chance of
getting close to a beach with that 4' draft.

There were an awfull lot of P15's around though. Never did see a P19 until
1995/6 at Miami boat show. Got mine June of 1998.

Where is Aripeka?

How come you haven't joined our free FL Potter Club? We do have a great group.
