i could pull out the crc handbook but....
salt water is denser than fresh water.
in the intertidal zones of a river, the fresh water
will float as a lens upon the saltwater.
also, a can of beer mis-thrown to another boat will
float in saltwater. it doesn't have to be light beer.
i once almost cut a wooden cruiser in half by spending
the night in a bay where the freshwater lens froze and
i had to break my way out. ice is very abrasive to wood.
