RE: [WWP] Have the "keel" galvanized?

I'd call it a swing keel. It pivots, and remains permanently in the boat.

It's 100 pounds (confirmed with Bruce at the factory). It makes a
significant contribution to the ballast. It sticks down about 3' max below
the waterline, giving it a substantial righting moment when the boat heels.
(but of course, you gotta remember it's a very small boat and the weight of
the crew is also a very important contribution to ballast)

I would say the P-15 has a centerboard or perhaps a drop keel (since 50 or
so pounds of steel has more of a stablilizing effect than a wooden,
aluminum or fiberglass centerboard). A daggerboard moves vertically up and
down like a dagger in and out of a sheath -- hence the name. A
centerboard or drop keel goes up and down like the blade of a folding knife.
I would not want to give up that 50 or so pounds of weight in my P-15's
steel centerboard/drop keel.
