Jewelers, manufacturers, etc. use a device called an ultrasonic cleaner to
brilliantly clean jewelry, metal objects, plastics etc. It's a tank that
contains a solution (water will work) and the object is placed in the tank.
Ultrasonic sound waves are transmitted into the tank and they vibrate off
all the dirt and corrosion on the object. Since bottom paint requires labor
to put it on, take it off, doesn't last long and is an enviro-toxin wouldn't
it be better to ultrasonically clean your boat? Several well placed
transducers mounted to the inside of the hull underwater should do the
trick. It would be very similar to the fishfinder in mounting and operation
principle, albiet a lower frequency (40 KHz instead of 200 KHz). It could
run periodically, say daily for 1/2 hour, and keep your hull sparkling
clean. Does anyone know if such a system for boats (of any size) exists?
Thanks,
